Capacity Building

Capacity building for urban development is about getting things done. In the end there should be water in pipes, accessible and
affordable housing, security, employment and other (local) services. Moreover, resources once created, need to be maintained. Capacity building for urban development is about
making the conditions right for this to happen. PT IHS has built up substantial expertise in the fields of housing, urban management, urban environmental management and asset management. In these fields PT IHS offers support by building the capacity of both
organizations and individuals through:

Training and Education

Institution Building

Advisory Services

As PT IHS experts are assigned to both training activities and advisory services, they are constantly confronted with the practical implications of their work. This mix of professionalism and practice inspires an entrepreneurial, result-driven attitude

Training is one of the most effective ways to build capacity and to improve the potential of organizations. The participatory and action-oriented training provided by PT IHS aims at improving  knowledge, skills and attitudes for managing the urban development processes of today.  PT IHS offers several course programs of international workshops and short courses both independently and in affiliation with IHS Rotterdam. In addition, PT IHS also assist IHS Rotterdam in administering and marketing of the master program.

To fulfill specific training needs, PT IHS also designs and conducts tailor-made training, in both Indonesia and abroad.

Increasingly organizations use PT IHS course programs as part of their overall strategy for institutional development. The range of subjects and  the flexible duration of courses allows participants to proceed training as they expected, allow organizations to implement an adjustable human-resource development scheme.

IHS Indonesia is offering a number of capacity building activities specifically designed for Indonesia urban managers. These training activities include 5-week training courses and international workshops.

Short Course
All 5-weeks courses consist of an introductory program after which an international workshop is organized to at least two different countries. In the final week the course will be wrap up by looking how lesson learnt can be implemented.

International Workshop
IHS Indonesia also offers a number of international workshops to Indonesian urban managers in 2002. Spread over a period of 12 days, these workshops seek to utilize the comparative advantage of IHS, based on its multi-country experience and in-house expertise, to ensure the delivery of a comprehensive short course that will consist of tailored presentations, site visits and structured discussions and consultation. The International Workshop are designed in such a way that participants are working and learning together in a stimulating environment offering ample international exposure.
